VERY OFTEN, THE police are chastised for not doing their jobs. Admittedly, many times when these allegations are made they are founded. But, oftentimes when the police do a good job it is ignored and put on the back burner.
But, on this occasion, the police deserves some commendation for their work in trying to stamp out robberies on Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses along Windward Road.
For those of us who may not be familiar with this new initiative by the police, the story of the police apprehension of several of the suspects of these bus robberies earned THE STAR cover on Tuesday.
This story has come at a time when the police has once again come under the microscope. Two incidents recently have caused the police to be viewed in a bad light again. These incidents, in which the police were accused of beating one of their own and attempting to extort money, set the force back further in terms of its attempt at gaining the public's trust.
But, just when all seemed lost, the Kingston Eastern police has shown that the police are still bent on maintaining law and order in a society where criminals are determined to create anarchy.
Consequently, one can only say well done, Kingston Eastern, keep up the good work.
