TWO MEN, GREGORY Eldimire of Love Lane and David Samuda from North Gully, both in Montego Bay, St. James, pleaded not guilty to possession of cocaine, but pleaded guilty to possession of and dealing in ganja, when they appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court recently.
Samuda, who was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon, pleaded guilty to that charge.
The allegations are that on November 19, a police party was on patrol in Love Lane when they saw Samuda coming out of a yard. When he saw the police, it is alleged that he turned around and went back into the yard. This action aroused suspicion.
An officer went into the yard and saw him standing at the doorway of a house, which was later identified as the home of Eldimire. Samuda was searched and a ratchet knife and a small quantity of ganja were found in his pocket.
The police then searched the house and recovered one and a half pounds of ganja and two transparent packages containing sticks of crack/cocaine weighing less than an ounce.
However, in court, Eldimire told RM Winsome Henry that the item the police identified as crack was actually alum that he bought for his teeth.
RM Henry told him that she needs the substance analysed. Both men will be sentenced on December 14, by which time the forensic report should be ready.
