Cop shot and injured

A POLICEMAN WAS shot in Clarendon on Monday night, while conducting an operation in the Effortville area.

Police say that at about 11 p.m., they were entering the Buzz Rock area of the district to conduct an operation when they were greeted with gunfire. It was reported that two men were spotted, one armed with a shotgun, the other with a handgun.

The officers returned the fire, and in the ensuing gun battle, one of the officers was hit in his left shoulder. Police suspect that one of the men was also hit, but have not yet recovered a body.

According to police, the wound suffered by their colleague was not life threatening, and he is reportedly in a state of recovery. They say that the Buzz Rock area is one of their most problematic areas in Clarendon.

"This area is constantly under policing, and has a tradition of gunfire, and other criminal activity," said Deputy Superintendent Cleon Marsh, crime chief for the parish.

The police say that though the area is continually under police surveillance, they will be doubling their efforts and operations to apprehend the men responsible.
