A SECURITY GUARD from Flankers, St. James, who allegedly knocked a man unconscious with a piece of pipe, was granted bail when he was brought before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Thirty-year-old Sean Reid, employed to Guardsman, who had pleaded not guilty to unlawful wounding when he was first before the court on Monday, was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with surety. He is to return to court on January 4.
LOST CONSCIOUSNESS
The allegations outlined to the court are that on November 22, about 1:30 p.m., the complainant was standing outside a Cable and Wireless office when he was approached by Reid who was on duty at the phone company. Reid, the court heard, used a piece of pipe to hit him on the left side of his head. The complainant, who lost consciousness, later woke up in the Cornwall Regional Hospital.
A policeman, who was on foot patrol in that area, came on the scene and questioned Reid who claimed that he was acting in self- defence.
However, a witness' statement indicated that the complainant was chased and that while he was running, Reid threw the piece of pipe at him hitting him.
Defence attorney Charles Sinclair, in his application for bail, told RM Winsome Henry that the complainant had been behaving boisterously in the Cable and Wireless office and was asked to leave. He said the complainant reportedly left and returned with a piece of iron. It was not made clear though as to whether it was the same piece of pipe which was used to hit him.
