Man on fraud charge denied bail

BY TASHIAKA MAIR, Star Writer

WESTERN BUREAU

A WESTMORELAND resident who allegedly failed to deliver goods that was paid for, will need to retain an attorney and make arrangements to reimburse the complainant before he can be granted bail.

Corrett Myles of Bethel Town is facing a charge of fraudulent conversion.

The allegations are that in early November, the complainant went to Tank Weld where he saw the accused, Myles. The complainant handed Myles $29,000 to deliver some steel the next day.

However, Myles did not deliver the items or the money. The complainant, accompanied by a policeman, went to Myles' home where it was agreed that he would meet with the complainant to return the money. Several meetings were set up, but Myles never showed.

On Monday when he was before the court, Myles told RM Carolyn Tie he had every intention of repaying the complainant, but said he did not meet with him because he had to go to take care of business, among a number of other excuses.

However, the arresting officer informed the court that this was not the first time that Myles had done something like this, as at present, he is in the process of repaying several other persons whom he took money from, but did not make deliveries.

RM Tie told him that she did not feel he should be granted bail because he may not show up for his December 5 court appearance.
