Party animals at Weekenz

BY KANDRÉ MCDONALD, Freelance Writer

Members of Coppershot - CONTRIBUTED

AT MIDNIGHT, WEEKENZ Bistro & Bar, 80 Constant Spring Road was lightly-populated for Insomnia: The Midnight Run, which was held at the venue last Saturday.

The party got off to a rather slow start with the patrons trickling in just before 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning. It was not only the patrons who were slow in coming, as the vibes and energy from the music mixing was somewhat wanting.

However, Kurt Riley, Epidemik and Coppershot ensured that the party picked up some momentum along with the growing audience. The three selectors mixed some credible sets that had the patrons warming up and getting into the party mood.

But it was Kurt 'The Party Animal' Riley who really unleashed the animal in some of the patrons, causing them to soil the white outfits they wore in conjunction with the theme of the party. Gyrating became commonplace in a few sections of the sizeable audience, which occupied a little less than half of the venue's area.

Kurt spun quite a few dance songs which had the patrons loosening up. The 'Willie Bounce', 'Chakka Chakka', 'Out and Bad', and a host of other dance tunes were played as the music 'tickled the party nerves' of the patrons.

Sweat began to form on the faces of a few and the number of persons visiting the all-inclusive bars increased.

FINGERS IN THE AIR

However, credit must be given to the selectors who played a more than credible set. They were responsible for setting the foundation as predecessors to The Party Animal. Playing a hardcore dancehall music set, dominated by songs from the mid and late '90s, the selectors from Epidemik had patrons reacting intermittently, at times with 'gun fingers' pointed skyward and shouts of approval.

Coppershot ruled the pre-developed stage of the party. They did not mix poorly, but the number of persons in the venue during their stint was nothing to write home about. At minutes after 11:00 p.m., during their stint, there was hardly anyone present to absorb the pulsating beats that they were mixing on the turntables.

The party went on fairly well, ending after 2:00 a.m., despite not having the most explosive turnout.
