CAROL GODFREY'S DESIRE to have fresh clothes has earned him three months jail time suspended for a year.
Reports are that on November 11, Godfrey, from Cooreville Gardens, St. Andrew, went into the Shopper's Fair Supermarket in Duhaney Park and took up a bottle of dishwashing liquid and a pack of Breeze Progress with bleach.
It is said that he approached the cashier and paid for the dishwashing liquid. He allegedly then put the soap powder in his pants pocket and left the supermarket.
The security guard at the supermarket, Derrick Segree, saw the bulge in Godfrey's pants and approached him outside. He identified himself and requested a search of Godfrey's person. The soap powder was found and the police called in. When cautioned, Godfrey reportedly said, " mi nuh have nuttin fi seh, because mi nuh tek nuttin."
When he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, Godfrey pleaded guilty to the charge. When probed by the RM he reportedly said, "I wanted the soap to wash clothes so I could get a job. I wasn't working, Your Honour."
