Pedestrian deaths on the rise in Jamaica

POLICE FROM THE Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), the information and communications leg of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, say that pedestrian deaths are already on a rise with the approaching Christmas season.

"Historically, the number of road fatalities always rise in the festive season, so we are appealing to motorists to be extra careful while driving...pedestrians must also be conscientious and avoid jaywalking," warned CCN officer, Constable O'neil Patterson.

In a move to minimise the pedestrian deaths this year, the JCF's Traffic Division are taking steps for the season.

"We will be implementing measures to reduce road fatalities this Christmas, including more foot patrol officers...as of the 15th of December, officers on leave will be recalled, and with training officers added to those numbers, we will be maximising police presence on the streets," assured an officer from that division.
