Pitterson retains DB&G chess title

DEFENDING CHAMPION, NATIONAL Master Jomo Pitterson, scored 5.5 points from six games to win the 2005 Dehring Bunting &Golding Clarendon Chess Open, which was held at the Glenmuir High School at the weekend.

Pitterson topped the Open section ahead of the National Master Duane Rowe who finished in second place with five points.

National Women's Champion Deborah Richards walked away with the best female prize, while National Under 18 Champion Brandon Wilson took home the best Junior award. The prize for best player from Clarendon was won by Juan Revilla.

The section for players with a rating under 1800, was won by Ardenne High's Hakim Buchanan who finished with 5.5 points. Second place went to Stuart James of Wolmer's Boys who also finished on 5.5 but who was relegated to second on tie-break. Third place went to Zachary Ramsay of Campion College who finished on five points.

The best female in the Under 1800 section was Shanice Myrie of Queen's High, the best player from Clarendon was Glenmuir's Lawrence Davey and the best player under 12 years of age was Tewana Mellace.

The tournament, which was organised by the Clarendon Chess Association (CCA) and sponsored by the May Pen Branch of DB&G, had a field of 60 entrants.
