A WOMAN WHO is in custody on three counts of fraudulent conversion was slapped with two additional charges last week when her case was again mentioned in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court.
Thirty-seven year old Marlene Plumber has been in custody since late last month and has been denied bail on three occasions, pending new charges.
One of the new complainants, Verrol Spence, said that he had been injured on his job and went to the law firm, E.H. Williams and Associates in November of 2002 to make enquiries regarding the possibility of compensation. He allegedly paid over $1000 to Plumber.
RECEIPTS
It is further alleged that subsequent to that payment, Plumber called Spence for more money. Spence's common-law wife paid Plumber a total of $7000 on separate occasions and received four receipts; the last payment of $500 was made on June 20 of this year.
The other complainant, Lesley Williams, allegedly paid approximately $45,000 in 2002 for the requisition of a birth certificate and application for a title. He made his last payment of $5000 on June 6, of this year, towards the title. However, he still has not received the documents.
The court also learnt that another complainant has come forward and so further investigations are taking place.
Defence attorney Adrian Days asked the court that the police work expeditiously as his client is suffering because the charges are always pending.
R.M. Winsome Henry said, however, that she needs all the charges in order to consider bail.
Three other complainants made previous allegations that they made payments to Plumber but did not receive the services for which they paid. The three said that they paid a total of $272,000.
Plumber will be brought back to court on Wednesday when it is expected that the new charges will be put to her.
