BARELY A MONTH after the shooting death of Winston McQueen, the community of Seaforth, St. Thomas, has again been rocked by another shooting. The latest victim is 22-year-old Delano Rankine, a labourer of Moodie Lane in Seaforth.
Reports are that on November 11, Rankine was standing in a cook shop when he was attacked by a man armed with a hand gun. The gunman opened fire, hitting him in the chest, shoulder and side. He was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he is reported to be in serious condition.
The Seaforth Police are now seeking Gihon McDonald for questioning in relation to the incident. McDonald was listed as a suspect after he was identified by the victim as well as by members of the community. He is alleged to have escaped before the police arrived at the scene.
The police suspect a link between Rankine's shooting and that of McQueen, a.k.a Blacka, who was killed as he sat on a bicycle at Navarre Lane, Seaforth. One man, Carlyle McDonald was taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Carlyle is the brother of Gihan, the suspect in Friday's shooting. Police say the shooting is the latest in an ongoing feud between residents of School, Blacksmith and Navarre lanes. Because of the tension that overshadowed the community on Friday, the nearby Seaforth High School was forced to suspend classes.
The Seaforth Police continue to investigate.
