CHAMPIONS Arnett Gardens were booted 2-1 by Cavalier and former national coach Carl Brown was on Boys' Town bench for their 3-0 victory over the Jamaica Defence Force in a dramatic round of Jackie Bell knockout football action.
Goals by Ricardo Burke in the 19th minute and former Arnett player Demetri Billet in the 52nd propelled Cavalier to their massive win.
Patrick Graham converted a 56th minute penalty to briefly give Arnett a glimmer of hope.
However, Cavalier were not overawed by the occasion and played with conviction and self belief.
Rudolph Speid, player/coach of Cavaliers, said his team is rebuilding and the win was a start.
QUALITY PLAYERS
"We have quality players and we knew that if Arnett didn't come and play at their best we would have a good chance to beat them," said Speid.
Losing coach Jerome Waite said to go out in the first game was disappointing.
"The team didn't play well," he said. "We created chances and didn't put them away. It was a general failure of the team."
At Up Park Camp, former national coach Brown and Andrew Price shared coaching duties in Boys' Town's 3-0 win over the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
Brown, absent from the local scene for some time, made a welcome return to his beloved club, marshalling the troops from the sideline to the satisfaction of the Boys' Town faithful.
Former national Under-20 player, Michael Campbell scored twice, in the 36th and 90th minutes, but was somewhat overshadowed by strike partner Fitzroy Anglin's beauty in the 53rd minute.
Anglin, the most senior player on the team, rifled in a swerving, dipping 25-metre shot that flew past JDF custodian Patrick McCalla and nestled in the back of the net.
Last year's beaten finalists Tivoli Gardens registered the most impressive victory, thrashing Mountain View United 5-0 at the Edward Seaga Stadium.
Nicholas McCreath scored twice and was ably supported by Christopher Nicholas, Jameel Thompson and Carlton Young.
It took an extra-time goal by Oneil Smith to lift Harbour View to a hard-fought 1-0 win over August Town at the UWI Bowl.
At Maverley Ground, Waterhouse, courtesy of goals from Keion Clunis, Demar Phillips and an own goal, defeated Meadhaven United 3-0.
Meanwhile struggling NPL outfit Constant Spring edged last year's beaten Super League finalists Bull Bay 1-0 at the Bull Pen.
