Today THE STAR kicks off one of its latest features, a weekly review of new songs. Three musical minds with different tastes will analyse each song and will grade it on vocal ability, lyrics, musical arrangement and appeal.
Song: Tsunami
Artiste: Unknown
xXx: Okay, so the first time I heard this song I was eating breakfast. It was three minutes and 15 seconds of intense horror. Imagine eating cereal listening to:
Like a tsunami I see you coming/Like lava, you're filled with magma..."
I paused and looked at the milk ..."I'm gonna make you come and come again/come with all your heart..."
Aahm, let's get serious about this here. I'm not even gonna touch on the background music yet ... Okay, fine, I will.
It reminds me of the music you hear when you're watching a horror flick and just as the vampire or whatever is about to bite into the other person's neck this song chips in. Dear Lord.
Queen: He's Jamaican?
TAE: I don't know what this man is talking about? Is it a woman that he had a relationship with?
xXx: I quite agree TAE. Can you imagine being in a bad mood and listening to that? Can you say chronic depression?
Queen: The concept is okay, but there is not a big rock market in Jamaica so I don't think it will make a strong mark in the market. Secondly, it's like he's only singing about land formations.
TAE: That's why I say that relationship is not normal.
Queen: Mi like rock music, but I don't know if I get it with the lyrics of this song. I would love if he had some more background singers in it.
TAE: That's how rock music go.
Queen: But with some rock bands, and singers like Rod Stewart, Rob Thomas, the vocals were great. This just needs some more work. But I admire his attempts to be different.
TAE: I would not buy it. Try again next year! 'Caan Buss'.
xXx: I just think he could better find a market doing movie soundtracks. He would sooo make it there. So 'caan buss' there.
Queen: I definitely agree that this song has the potential to buss in the movie market. Probably in a movie about the tsunami in Asia. Anyway as for the local market it 'caan buss'.
