RESIDENTS OF PHASE II, Seaview Gardens, St Andrew are concerned about a woman who failed to remove her dead son from her home several days after he reportedly died.
According to residents, Desmond Gunther, 38, died sometime between Thursday and Friday of last week, but his mother did not call the police until they started complaining about an odour coming from the house on Sunday.
"Him (Desmond) did sick an deh a hospital an' come out an deh in deh. Usually when we ask har bout him she run wi an' if him hear we call, him shout mek we hear him," said a resident of the community.
The Seaview Gardens police said Gunther's death seemed to have been a case of pneumonia. They said he was due to visit the hospital on November 11, but did not go as his mother had no money. They refused to say if the mother would be charged, but added they were investigating.
"Sunday we ask him bredda fi him an' him run go in an him madda come out an' seh him a res'. But some a wi seh di place a smell an' when we say we a go call police she run go station go report it," said another resident.
Residents said when they checked the house, Gunther was seen lying on the bed and there was a stench coming from a room. They said Gunther's younger brother had reportedly informed his mother of the death but she insisted that he was resting. They said she had tried to serve Gunther soup but he did not swallow. When the younger brother, who is in his late 20s, reportedly told her he was dead he was chastised.
"She have dem in deh lock up an' dem caan talk to nobody. Anybody come a di gate she run dem," said another resident.
Residents said that last month Gunther was hospitalised after they assisted the mother. They said he was discharged and came back to the community.
