ATLANTA, GEORGIA
GEORGIA STATE OF Banking and Finance has granted a licence to Jamaica National Overseas (JNO) U.S. Limited, a subsidiary of Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) to commence operating its Money Transfer business in the state of Georgia.
According to Jamaica National Overseas U.S. Limited Money Transfer Regional Manager, Mrs. Carmen Bartlett, the approval was received recently and money transfer operations out of Georgia commenced last month.
Mrs. Bartlett pointed out that Georgia has become the sixth state in the United States that Jamaica National operates its Money Transfer. The other five states are: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Washington DC and Florida.
Mrs. Bartlett stated that Georgia was chosen because it is one of the fastest growing states in America, as it relates to the Jamaican population, which now stands at approximately 40,000 and growing. The JNO regional manager also added that within another two months an office will be opened to serve the Jamaican community in Georgia.
The Jamaican community is now served by four agents in Atlanta which include: Jamaica World Travel, The Family Gallery, Island in the Sun Restaurant and Naje's Hair Studio.
WELCOMED MOVE
Jamaica's Honorary Consul to Atlanta, Mr. Vin Martin, com-mended JNO U.S. Limited for commencing operations in Atlanta. Mr. Martin said that this was the first Jamaican financial institution that has chosen to set up operations in Atlanta and this was a welcomed move. He said there was no doubt that the Jamaican community will support JNO U.S. Limited.
Jamaica National Overseas U.S. Limited has been operating in the United States for over 12 years, with its main office located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Its parent company, JNBS, is now in its 134th year of operation.
