
ANTHONY MINOTT - Latoya ThomasPORTMORE'S NINETEEN-year-old Netball star, Latoya Thomas is one of seven U-21 players drafted by the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) to a 14-member senior team for the Commonwealth Games slated for Australia next year March.
The other U-21 players include sixteen-year-old, 6'5' shooter Romelda Aiken, Jodian Ffrench, Nicole Aiken, Peta-Gaye Thomas, Tameka Stewart and Nickeisha Connelley.
Other members of the squad include veterans: Elaine Davis, Oberon Pitterson, Nadine Bryan, Nichala Gibson, with Marvetta Murray Tamara Hylton, Sasha-Gaye Henry completing the list.
Jamaica is down to play two international series. The first was a best of three Tests against Australia held November 4-7 and a tri-nation series featuring Caribbean neighbour's, Barbados and World Champions, New Zealand in mid-November.
The 6'1' Latoya Thomas who played goal attack along side Romelda Aiken in the summer World U-21 Netball Champi-onships in Florida is getting her first call to the senior national squad and she is absolutely elated.
"It is a great achievement ... all I need to do is continue playing with confidence and do my best," Thomas told THE PORTMORE STAR, recently. The Hellshire resident said that she was looking forward to play in a starting role if given the chance. Thomas, a late bloomer in netball circles, began playing competitively at age 15 for Alpha Academy in the ISSA High School Netball league from 2000-2002. She got her first national call in 2001 for the U-16 squad.
