IAN ALLEN STAFF - St. Catherine High's Troy Martin (left) attempts to get by a sliding Kemar Castro of Mona in second round ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup action at the Constant Spring field yesterday. St. Catherine High won 2-0.
FIRST-TIME ENTRANTS Eltham High made another strong statement in this year's Manning Cup when they came from two goals down to hold favourites Calabar High to a 2-2 draw as group two play in the ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup got under way yesterday at the Constant Spring Complex.
A draw for the Eltham team had never looked to be on the cards, as they seemed to be unable to find any way into the game, constantly bombarded by a confident Calabar team.
The team from Red Hills Road took the lead in the 29th minute through Akeem Bennett. Bennett put his team ahead when he struck back a shot that was parried by Eltham 'keeper Kelso Cousins. They extended their lead in the 72nd minute through captain Ramone Palmer who was able to comfortably put away another deflected shot in front of goal.
However, substitute Sheron Brown would give Eltham hope six minutes later when he pulled one back. But even better for them would be a scorcher from 18 yards out hit by Tremaine Smith from a poorly cleared corner 10 minutes from time to give his team a share of the points.
In the day's other group two clash, two second-half goals by Kemar Bennett gave St Catherine a 2-0 win over Mona.
