DEFENDING CHAMPIONS SPANISH Town Primary was taken the distance by McCauley Primary in a 3-2 win in the opening game of the INSPORTS St Catherine Football League last Tuesday at the GC Foster College in St Catherine.
It took a 55th minute strike by double goal scorer, Jamie Hall, to give Spanish Town maximum points in their opening Zone B game. Romario Constant (37th) scored the victors' other goal. McCauley Primary shot in front in the 24th minute when their star striker, Kevon Nembhard, scored from the penalty spot. However, two goals in ten minutes by Hall and Constant pushed the school from the Old Capital to a 2-1 lead, but Nichque slotted home after a melee inside the Spanish Town penalty box that gave McCauley hope. However, Hall's solo effort five minutes from full time was met with jubilation from the Spanish Town aggregation.
In the second match of the triple-header, Old Harbour Bay defeated Friendship 3-1, while in the feature Junior High encounter, Linstead beat Sspring garden All-Age 5-2.
Meanwhile, an opening ceremony and dress parade preceded the matches with 22 schools from primary/junior Highs in St Catherine taking part. Elaine Walker-Brown, INSPORT sport officer for St Catherine, moderated the function.
Also in attendance were Ian Andrews, Administrative Director of INSPORTS, Bruce McFar-lane, Assistant administrative Director, Andrea Hanson, INSPORT Sports Officer for St Catherine and Lincoln "Happy" Sutherland, president of the St Catherine FA.
