Soares steps down as PCAC chairman

RASBERT TURNER, Portmore Star Writer

FILE - Barrington Soares

REVEREND BARRINGTON SOARES, chairman of the Portmore Citizens Advisory Council announced at the Portmore Municipal Council meeting on Wednesday, that next Friday will be the last time the PCAC will have a meeting with him as its chairman.

Soares said that his two year tenure with the group will end on that date.

He told THE PORTMORE STAR that he does not know if he will seek re-election as there is a process. "It will be left to the organisation that I represent if they see it fit to re-elect me as their chairman,", he said, pointing out he might consider if asked.

He admitted that the PCAC did not achieve all it could during his tenure. "We could have achieved more, however, we were side-tracked by the toll road issue but I have learnt a lot and have no regrets," he said.

He said the job was challenging, however, it was an honour to serve.

Mayor of Portmore, George Lee, said the PCAC has worked well to some extent. He too, agrees that they were sidetracked by the toll road issue. The group was designed as a watchdog to the Municipal Council.
