Man and woman charged with possession of firearm

A PORTMORE MAN and woman were charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. They are Kevin Lindsay, 18, and Michelle Charlton, 38, both from Waterford.

Allegations were outlined by Detective Sergeant Maurice Graham of the Waterford police that on September 10 this year, at about 11:45 p.m., a police party received information of men firing shots from a motor car in Waterford. The car was intercepted and a shoot out ensued and the men ran away.

Further investigation led the police to Charlton's home where a search yielded an illegal 9mm pistol found wrapped in a nightie belonging to Charlton. She was arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm. However, while at the police station, Lindsay visited her and was identified as one of the persons who had engaged the police in the shoot out.

It was later borne out that he lived in the room where the firearm was found. He too was arrested and charged.

When they appeared in court on Tuesday RM Lorna Errar Gayle told the police that it would have been better if they had done a formal identification parade. They were however remanded until November 18 to appear in the Gun Court.
