A most disturbing link

A STORY IN last Thursday's STAR reported that police were seeking the son of a councillor Enos 'Ned' Lawrence for questioning in connection with murders and shootings in and around Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

According to the story, the son, known as 'Devil' is wanted for crimes he allegedly committed as a lieutenant to the late Donovan 'Bulbie' Bennett.

It is disturbing that the son of a public official may be so closely linked to criminal activities.

One wonders if his father knew the things that his son was involved in.

But if Councillor Lawrence did not know of his son's involvement, what has he done since the police have launched a manhunt for him to help bring him in.

Like this councillor, there are other law-abiding Jamaicans who may directly or indirectly be linked to criminals in the island and have done little or nothing to turn them over to the police.

If Jamaica is to be safe and free of crime then those of us who are closely linked to criminals must hand them over to the police.

As a parent it is difficult to give up that son or daughter but they may have also robbed a parent of his or her son or daughter. The law states that those who commit crimes must suffer the consequences and as such those who know who the criminals are and where they are must tell the police.
