Dear Pastor,
This letter is in response to "No Love for Jamaica". I am very annoyed by the way people are constantly putting down Jamaica. This American citizen lived in Jamaica with her man to whom she had been married while she was living in the United States. She went back to Jamaica and the man started to abuse her. She claims that he is an alcoholic.
My question is this to her. Did you not know that this man was an alcoholic before you married him? What! You expected this man of yours to change overnight the day he put the ring on your finger? Why are women so naïve? If before you got married to someone, you saw signs of abuse, neglect or anything else for that matter, why in God's name do you think that after the marriage he will change completely?
Woman, please! People do not change after they get married. It's just that we fail to acknowledge the little things that we think are cute become annoying after a while. Woman, please wake up and smell the coffee.
You also mentioned that the police response in Jamaica is terrible. It's not only terrible in Jamaica, its terrible everywhere. I too am a citizen and have called the police and if it's not a real emergency they take anywhere form 45 minutes to an hour for them to respond. You also stated that Jamaica is a God-forsaken country. Well, my dear that is only the opinion of one person.
Jamaica is a beautiful place and if you felt so strongly about the fact that it is such a terrible island, why did you go live there for such a long time with a man? I hope you enjoy your life here in the United States of America and never have to experience such abuse, since from your perspective things like this only happen in Jamaica.
I can only advise you to be more careful about whom you choose to be your husband because wherever you go, if a man chooses to abuse you and whatever else, he is going to do just that. Don't take your unfortunate experience out on the island of Jamaica. God made both good and bad people and they are all over the world. Be smart and not ignorant. When you have a bad experience, it will just teach you to be wiser the next time around!

Dear U. M.,
Thank you very much for your contribution. I hope this lady will learn from her bad experience and that she will not condemn every Jamaican. I must admit that she is out of order.
