Man accused of selling fake Baba Roots pleads not guilty

A ST. ANDREW businessman who was allegedly found selling fake Baba Roots, appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court for breaches of the Trademark Act on Wednesday.

Winston Lee, a supermarket owner from Kingston 10, pleaded not guilty before RM Martin Gayle. Lee was arrested after police raided his supermarket and reportedly found several bottles of the fake drink.

Allegations are that on October 5 between 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the police raided the supermarket. It is reported that 35 bottles of the fake drink were allegedly found on the shelves. The police reportedly searched the warehouse and reportedly found another 96 bottles. Lee was arrested.

Lee's attorney Patrick Bailey said his client's plea was not guilty and asked for a new date as he wanted to examine the case further.

RM Martin Gayle agreed and set a November 23 date for the matter to be heard. Lee's bail was extended.
