DANCEHALL GROUP TOK is quite upset with recent comments made by fellow dancehall artiste Sean Paul in an interview for an international website.
The website Virgin.net stated that Sean Paul singled out the notoriously anti-gay tune Chi Chi Man by T.O.K. as an example of the type of music that is degrading the industry.
"Right now my question to these dudes is, 'Why say it so many times?' It's really hurting the music on a monumental level", the website quotes the deejay as saying.
DISCREDITING US
"Wi neva really expect that from Sean Paul cause we an him deh pon a level yah now, suh wi nuh really know why him a seh dem ting deh. Wi never like the fact seh him mek di statement a seh why ('these dudes') waste time doing songs like these, referring to our song Chi Chi Man, a song released four years ago an wi have song weh a run di place now like Footprints. Is like he is trying to discredit us or afraid of a likkle competition," Flexx, one of the members of the group said.
An excerpt of the article, headlined Sean Paul condemns anti-gay music, stated that the rapper has joined the ever growing band of hip hop stars to speak out against homophobia in music.
Flexx said that they saw the Virgin.net article while surfing through the Google website. Virgin.net which was launched in November 1996 is today one of the top website in the U.K. The website is a popular destination for the latest entertainment news and reviews with everything from movies, music to travel and shopping.
Efforts by THE STAR to get a comment from Sean Paul regarding the Virgin.net article were unsuccessful, as he was said to be on his way to Japan.
In the meantime, Craig T another T.O.K. group member also said that he felt that it was unfair of Sean Paul to single out any one set of artistes.
"Mi feel seh him fi do betta dan dat cause as far as me know a one music an di whole a wi a artiste, suh him neva need fi single out any one set of artistes, mi feel seh we an him did cool...but a nuh nutt'n cause him caan stop wi flow an wi naa spen nuh time talk bout it," he said.
