Criminals slow down in bad weather

THE RAINY PERIOD was a fairly quiet time for criminals across the island.

According to an officer at the Constabulary Communication Network, they had received little reports from their liaison officers about any murders being committed across the island.

However, the police report that a man was shot dead at his home on Grant's Pen road on Monday night, the bodies of two persons were found at the Moneymusk Sugar Factory on Tuesday and an elderly woman was also killed by criminal elements, also on Tuesday.

The Grants Pen man, who has only been identified as Mickey, is believed to be about 50 years old and is of dark complexion, stout build and about 170 centimetres (5 ft. 7 ins) tall.

HOUSE DESTROYED

Over in St. Mary, a six bedroom house was destroyed by fire at 9:20 a.m. on Monday. Police reports are that the occupants and their four-year-old grandson were at home, when the child accidentally set fire to a sofa in the living room. The fire quickly engulfed the house. The fire brigade was summoned and a unit from Port Maria Fire Station extinguished the blaze. No one was injured and the loss is estimated at $5 million.

STOLEN ITEMS

In the meantime, Flying Squad detectives are seeking Tredegar Park resident, Anthony Sanchez. The squad is investigating the seizure of several electronic items and believe Sanchez may assist them in solving the case.

Sanchez is said to drive a white Honda motor car with 'Hype' written on the windshield.

The police say they believe a number of persons have purchased some stolen items at prices far below their market value.

However, they are reminding citizens who purchase goods at bargain prices and cannot produce proper documentation that they may be charged with receiving stolen property. Persons who think they may have unknowingly purchased the stolen property are asked to contact the Flying Squad at 778-4522, 922-3002 or 922-2373.
