Roads blocked in St Catherine

BY RASBERT TURNER, STAR Writer

SPANISH TOWN

SEVERAL ROADS IN St. Catherine were blocked off due to land slippage yesterday.

A STAR news team braved the rain on to sections of the Mandela Highway. Upon reaching near the White Marl intersection, there was a massive landslide. Also in sections of the Bog Walk Gorge, aside from the rising water, there were also signs of land slippage in the area.

While there was a small amount of activity on the streets due to the heavy rains, motorists who tried to brave the weather were warned by the police to be careful, as at least one taxi operator was robbed about noon by a group of gunmen along Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town.

Reports from the police are that the taxi operator braved the weather and was taking passengers into Spanish Town. He was driving slowly when a group of men stopped the vehicle and proceeded to rob the taxi man of his money.

Several other areas reported flooding such as the Hampton Green area outside Spanish Town, and Jones Avenue. The police were busy trying to patrol areas where problems were likely to start.
