Kadie Ann Sinclair - CONTRIBUTED
KADIE ANN SINCLAIR, 25, may be described as a young, vibrant and talented individual who is a businesswoman at heart but who practises the art of teaching.
She hails from the hilly region of Christiana, Manchester and for the past two years has been serving as a member of the teaching staff at Lluidas Vale All Age School which is situated in a valley in north-western St. Catherine. Altogether she has three years teaching experience having previously taught for a year at Mount Olivet Primary School in Walderston, Manchester.
Kadie is the third of six children born to Horace and Grace Sinclair. The early seeds of a teaching career were sown while assisting with the education of young children at her mother's basic school.
BUSINESS-MINDED
But her dream of one day becoming a businesswoman, or as she put it, "be able to have my own business, preferably in real estate," prompted her to choose mainly business subjects during her studies at Knox High School from 1992 - 1997, and later at Knox Community College.
On the prompting of her mother she entered Bethlehem Teacher Training College from 1999-2002, gaining a diploma in Business Education in the process. Shortly after leaving college she said that she realised that jobs in her speciality were hard to come by. After several months of frustration, she finally landed her present job.
When prodded by THE STAR as to how she was able to cope in a primary education setting, Miss Sinclair alluded to the understanding nature of the principal and the teacher who supervises and mentors her at the school, Mrs. Yvonne Taylor. She said that what she learned from her mother also came in handy as she was given a grade two class to teach.
She continued by stating that her main problem was methodology. She has done general education courses in college like psychology, curriculum development, curriculum testing and measurement, but the methodology was geared towards business studies.
SOCIABLE PERSON
She is known among the school circle for taking her grade two students on community field trips. She said she believes that it is a good thing to let students find out things for themselves, to do research from an early age. She also explained to them the importance of taking care of the environment.
Miss Sinclair, who describes herself as a sociable person, who is adept at sport and drama, is currently enrolled as a part-time student at the University of Technology (UTech). She is pursuing a bachelors degree in Business Education. Her immediate plan for the students is to start a business club which will serve to instil in them the importance of good money management.
