ST. ELIZABETH:
A MAN WHO tried to bribe a St. Elizabeth police officer to drop a ganja charge, is to return to the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court on October 12 for sentencing.
Patrick Manning, also known as 'Blacka British', a 32-year-old dance promoter from Wavel Avenue in Kingston, pleaded guilty to a charge of bribery.
Manning pleaded guilty to the charges of bribery and was offered $50,000 bail with surety when the matter was mentioned last Wednesday.
RM Stanley Clarke told Manning that while he was offering him bail, he should make every effort to return to court, as failure on his part would only serve to put him in more trouble.
The court heard that on October 2, Manning and Carlton Hiddo, 53, a taxi operator of Central Village, St. Catherine, were travelling in a Toyota Corolla motor car along the Crawford main road in St. Elizabeth when the police stopped them.
The car was searched and ganja weighing approximately two ounces was found hidden under the driver's seat. Both men were arrested and charged with possession of ganja.
While they were being processed at the Black River Police Station, Manning gave a police officer $4,000 and told the officer to buy drinks for everyone and drop the charge. He was then cautioned and charged with trying to bribe a police officer.
Manning and Hiddo pleaded guilty to the possession of ganja and were each fined $200 or 10 days jail time.
