Married to the mob

Dear Pastor,

I have been living with a man for the past three years. We are married with two kids. After our first child he began to treat me badly. He verbally abuses me and sometimes rapes me. He even hit me and told me that if I leave him he will hunt me down and shoot me.

I do not know what to do.

C.M., Portland, Jamaica

Dear C. M.,

You should not take this man's threat lightly. You should have reported him to the police from the time he started to abuse you. Frankly, I do not think that you should remain with him. However, you may suggest to him that both of you go for counselling. If he refused to go and continued to behave as a beast, you should set your plans carefully and leave him. It would not hurt at all if you talk to an attorney- at-law right now about what you intend to do.
