College test for hot Bridgeport

By PAUL-ANDRE WALKER, Staff Reporter

St. George College's goalkeeper Jabari Wallace watches in despair as the ball, which came from the boot of Tivoli's Jermaine Allen (not in picture), ends up in the back of his net at Winchester Park last Saturday. The ISSA Pepsi/JN Manning Cup game ended 2-2. - Carlington Wilmot

BRIDGEPORT COMPREHENSIVE HIGH, the only team in the ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup still to have a hundred per cent win record, will have their mettle tested when they play away to a hungry Kingston College today.

Kingston College have been finding goals hard to get in this year's competition but showed some flair last week when they drubbed Holy Trinity 4-0.

"This is a problem that we've been having, because we've been doing a lot of practice in front of goal. Right now it's a bewilderment to me how we can't find a combination to score any goals. It's amazing, we are getting the chances," Kingston College's coach, Trevor 'Jumpy' Harris said.

Bridgeport, on the other hand have looked comfortable on the park and seem to have the ability to score goals at their choosing.

To highlight the kind of form that Portmore's darlings have displayed, they easily pushed aside the challenge of a strong looking Eltham team in a 2-0 victory last week.

Eltham shocked Kingston College and Meadowbrook earlier this season and have proven themselves a good team.

Speaking about the match-up against North Street's former champions, Bridgeport's coach Anthony Patrick said:

"The game against Kingston College will be a hard one but once we bring our 'A' game then there'll be no threat there."

Kingston College are presently third in Group 'E' on seven points, behind Eltham and Bridgeport, who have nine and twelve respectively.

If Kingston College are to get into the top two, then beating Bridgeport is as good a start as any.
