A SIX-YEAR-old girl is among three people shot dead by a gunman at a football match in Ewarton, St. Catherine yesterday. The gunman was later killed by security guards at the match and his illegal revolver seized.
Dead are Zidan Linton, 6, a student of Polly Ground Primary School in Ewarton; Morris Ogilvie, 22, labourer from Roadside district, Ewarton and Marlon Duncan, 23, store clerk, from Linstead, all in St. Catherine. The gunman was identified as 'Eddie' from Mount Rosser in the parish.
Residents of the area say the gunman is an ex-convict and a known cokehead. They said that as far as they know, his attack on the people at the match was unprovoked.
It is reported that about 5:00 p.m., while the Corner League match was going on between Rosemount and Ewarton, the gunman jumped the fence, entered and began shooting indiscriminately.
When the smoke cleared, it was discovered that three persons were shot dead and four others shot and injured. The gunman was accosted by security personnel and during an ensuing shoot out he was shot dead.
His weapon was seized and handed over to the police and the injured persons were rushed to hospital.
Residents expressed shock at the gruesome attack. "A caa believe that dis really happen, a only in a movie me see dem ya sinting ya," remarked a player on one of the teams.
