THIS WEEK IS a special one for the Island Special Constabulary Force as they will be hosting their Commemoration Week from September 18-24 and will hold several events to mark this occasion.
This is the first year it is having a week of commemoration up from a day for most of its 55 years.
Building a brand
"We're building a brand and one way to do this is by making the public aware of the brand. We have decided to make the public aware by having a Commemoration Week," explained James Golding, Deputy Commandant of the ISCF.
"We also wanted to take care of the social needs of the men. The significance of being 55 years old makes it important that we celebrate it over a longer period as it shows we are an institution and not just an organisation," he said.
Busy schedule
But the week will not be a calm and laid back one as several events are planned. Among the events are a church service, a drill competition and a family fun day.
The church service took place on Sunday. On Wednesday, a new canteen was opened at the Harman Barracks ground. Also, the Special Constable Association and the Blue Cross handed over an ambulance to the ISCF.
The week ends on Saturday with a Family Fun Day at Kirkvine in Manchester where there will be bun eating, beer drinking, dominoes, cricket and football competitions.
