ONE MAN WAS shot and killed by the police and two illegal guns seized in separate incidents in St. Catherine, yesterday.
In the first incident that occurred at about 4:30 a.m., a police party, acting on information, drove into number 6 St. Johns Road, Spanish Town.
It is alleged that on the lawmen's arrival they were greeted with gunfire from a group of men. A shoot-out followed.
After the shooting subsided and a search of the area was conducted, the police found a man, who is still unidentified, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police also recovered one Zigzaya pistol with several live rounds.
About a hour and a half later the police were summoned to Mansfield Avenue in the troubled community of Homestead, also in Spanish Town. Upon their arrival a group of men were spotted and searched.
During the search, a Bereta pistol along with several rounds was taken from Harrington Masters. He was charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile the Bureau of Special Investigations will be investigating the case of shooting where the unidentified man was fatally shot.
The seizure of these illegal weapons bring to 55, the number seized by the police in the St. Catherine North Division since the start of the year.
Forty five of these weapons were recovered in Spanish Town alone.
