MAYOR OF SPANISH Town, Dr. Andrew Wheatley, and Councillor Nathalie Campbell-Rodrigues appeared in the Spanish Town RM Court yesterday to face charges of disorderly conduct and breaches of the Anti-litter Act.
Both pleaded not guilty to the charges, and their case was set to be mentioned again on October 11.
According to Assistant Superintendent Wayne Cameron of the Corporate Strategy Unit, on September 6 this year, Mayor Wheatley and several other persons were observed in three different motor vehicles between the hours of 4:00-4:50 a.m blocking roads in Naggo Head, Newlands and sections of the Port Henderson Road.
DRAGNET SET UP
The ASP told the court that a dragnet was set up and the police caught the mayor, the councillor and six other persons namely, Mike Barrett, Dalkeith Brown, Andre Stoddart, Dalton Dawkins, Johnny Morgan and Troy Watson blocking the road. They were subsequently charged by the police.
Defence attorney George Soutar, who defended the group, asked that the court give another mention date for the case. It was agreed that on October 11, the eight accused would return to court.
Members of the Jamaica Labour Party hierarchy, led by Opposition spokesman on Finance, Audley Shaw, Christopher Tufton, Councillors Donovan Guy and William Cytall all turned up in court to give moral support to the councillors.
