CAYMAN COPS HUNT J'CANS

POLICE IN CAYMAN are searching for two men, believed to be Jamaicans, who were involved in a robbery at a house next door the country's Attorney-General's residence. The police believe the Attorney-General was the intended target of the men, who they say were armed and spoke "raw Jamaican Patois".

No one was hurt in last Thursday's incident at the AG's neighbour's home, but the police say the robbers tied up the householders and placed pillowcases over their heads before robbing them of jewellery.

Maria McLean, media liaison personnel for the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, confirmed to THE STAR that there is some evidence to suspect that the intended target was the Attorney-General. "This possibility is subject to intense police activity and the entire police operation is been led by the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Anthony Ennis," McLean said in a statement.

She revealed that Ennis has briefed senior government officials and will be keeping them abreast of developments. "Suffice to say the police are taking this incident extremely seriously and have mobilised all assets and resources," McLean added.

The police say the incident occurred at about 4 p.m. when the men forced their way into a private house in Patrick's Island. Two female occupants were threatened and eventually tied up and their faces were covered with pillowcases. There were two children in the house at the time of the incident.

The husband of one of the occupants returned home from work and was overpowered by the robbers and was also tied up and a pillowcase placed over his head, the police say. Watches and gold chains were taken from the occupants and the robbers made their escape in the family car, a light green Suzuki Vitara. Police later found the vehicle abandoned in the Prospect area, some miles away.

McLean says an all day forensic examination of the house and the stolen vehicle was done and an incident room has been established at the George Town Police Station.

Witnesses described one of the men as a male aged between 20-25 years, of slim build, between 5'5 and 5'7" with narrow face and a pointed chin. He had no facial hair and he is said to have 'dreads' partially falling over his forehead and reaching half-way to the shoulders. He walked in a slow manner.

He was wearing baggy, faded jeans pants that reached just below his knees and a long sleeved, royal blue sweat shirt. The collar of the shirt was up to his neck. He spoke standard English with a heavy Jamaican accent and at one stage spoke raw Jamaican Patois.

The other is of heavy build with a medium size stomach, not fit looking, between 5'7" and 5'9", face covered with a dark coloured hood with eye holes. He wore a dark coloured clothing possibly made of nylon material and spoke standard English with a heavy Jamaican accent. Occasionally he spoke raw Jamaican patois.
