How safe are our hospitals?

ON MONDAY NIGHT, a man was murdered in front of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). His shooting was the third to happen in the area in the last six months.

Of course this incident must raise fresh security concerns for the staff, visitors and vendors at the KPH.

From time to time, the entrance and the grounds of the hospital have been the scene of violence. The hospital administration, along with the police, have managed to reduce the number of shootings on the hospital compound in recent times. The incidents on the road happens almost continuously.

What this means is that being outside the KPH can become a dangerous experience as an act of violence may occur in the blink of an eye.

What these shootings say, however, is that more police presence is needed in that area to reduce the number of killings. It will also greatly reduce the likelihood of such an incident taking place.

Whether or not the above mentioned suggestion will be carried out remains to be seen. But, having police patrol the area or operating out of the police post located on the grounds of the KPH can help to reduce the violence in the area and may also allow people who use the area to feel safe again.
