WATERFORD DROPPED THEIR first points of the 2005 Pepsi/JN Urban Area Manning Cup Schoolboy football competition after they were held to a 1-1 draw by St. George's College at Waterford playfield in Portmore yesterday.

Waterford who defeated Kingston High 4-2 in their opening encounter, and Edith-Dalton James 2-0, had to come from behind against St. George's yesterday.

Both coaches, Everton James of Waterford and St. George's Neville 'Bertis' Bell were two happy men after the proceedings.

"Under the condition I'm satisfied ... we had a very hard game on Friday and it took it's toll on my players," James said.

Meanwhile, Bell said: "I thought we played well, I don't think we played badly. I'm not certain we got too many chances to score and Waterford ... they were tough on their home field.

"I am happy that we got a point away from home and I really don't think we played badly," Bell said.

Jermaine Gardener scored the game's first goal in the 56th while Dwayne Stewart netted the equaliser for Waterford in the 61st minute.

In a game, which saw Waterford getting 80 per cent of the chances, St. George's goalkeeper Jabari Wallace could be considered as the saviour for the North Street-based school.

Waterford's Stewart got no less than four easy chances, one and one with the keeper, but each time, from inside the six-yard-box, he kicked straight into Wallace's hands.

In other matches, favourites Calabar bounced back with a 3-1 win over Charlie Smith at Tony Spaulding Complex. Akeem Bennett (20th), Marlon Smith (36th) and Kirk Palmer (81st) scored for last year's beaten finalists while Craig Hunter (67th) netted for the losers.
