SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, the latest entertainment event for The Hilton hotel's Jonkanoo Lounge, was launched this weekend, backed by popular dancehall.
The event was patronised by various entertainment personalities including CéCile, Penny Bling and Jigsy from Danger Zone Squad, Mr. Goofy, and Dean Fraser.
The concept of the show was engineered by Keith Cousins, who is also in charge of the Latin Night events at the Hilton and Courtleigh hotels.
"We do any new talent on Saturday Night Live, it is an amazing set up and we want to showcase any new and rising talent," Cousins said.
Aired locally
It is intended that the perform-ances will be aired on local television stations and music and video producer Stephen Ventura will be responsible for financing the production. On Saturday night, while the performers entertained the crowd, video footage with its previous work was shown on television sets that were set up by the side of the stage.
As part of Saturday's launch, one of the performers was Cousins who was backed by Maaga Girls and even CéCile at one point. Cousins later delivered Pray Fi Di Youths Dem with Mega C. There was also a performance from Jasmine out of Washington DC, accompanied by two flashy male dancers decked in white gloves and hat.
A2O, the male musical group, did a number of songs, some of which were accompanied by a trumpeter and a saxophonist. Two members of the group also did pieces accompanied by guitars.
A little later after the group invited CéCile on stage Mr. G also came on and went 'toe to toe' with CéCile in song selection.
While CéCile took the opportunity to swipe at the men wearing tights pants and blouses, Mr. G. spoke about girls with 'corny toes'.
When THE STAR spoke to both artistes later, they had high praises for the organisers. "Big up Stephen Ventura, mi affi endorse unuh," commented Mr. G.
CéCile was quick to say; "I think it's a good idea, it's kinda like an unplugged, MTV Saturday Night Live. I hope we all endorse it because we need to get our music together so we can sell it as an international package. I'm all for it."
