JAMAICAN JOCKEY WINSTON Thompson captured Monday's Sunset Gun Stakes aboard the hot favourite Ask Queenie and remained leading rider at Suffolk Downs.
Ask Queenie, the 2-to-5 top choice in the six-horse field, accelerated away from her rivals to win the US$40,000 event by four-and-a-half lengths for trainer Lori Lockhart and owner Laurine Barreira.
Reigning champion jockey Thompson used the four-year-old filly to stalk the 2-1 second favourite Papa Dancer to the top of the stretch then drew off to an authoritative victory.
Third in a row
It was the third stakes victory in a row for Ask Queenie and ninth of her career after covering the mile and a 16th trip on the grass course in one minute 48.48 seconds.
Papa Dancer, with Taylor Hole riding, held on for third place over the fast closing 7-1 chance Deerwood Lass, who snatched third spot.
The win was Thompson's 98th of the season but the healthy lead he has held for most of the year has diminished and nearest rival Dyn Panell is now only three wins behind in second, with 95 victories.
