KINGSTON, CMC
WEST INDIES FAST bowler Jermaine Lawson has been cleared by the International Cricket Council over having a suspect bowling action.
Phillip Service, the West Indies Cricket Board territorial development officer in Jamaica, told CMC Sports on Thursday that the ICC report had given the player the green light.
"That is the formal position. They have found that his deliveries on average are within the 15 degrees," Service said.
"He has passed the test. However, we need to be continually aware that this is the second time he has been reported so he needs to maintain his fitness on one hand and also be reminded of the various things we worked on during his remediation."
The 23-year old Jamaican was reported by match officials after the first Test of the recent two-Test series against Sri Lanka at the Singhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
Despite this, he played in the second Test of the series but was mandated to undergo an independent analysis of his action by British bio-mechanics expert Dr Paul Hurrion in London recently.
The Jamaica Cricket Association had excluded Lawson from its 28-man training squad preparing for the President's Cup starting in October but the decision now allows the player to suit up.
"He is free to continue his career as I understand it," Service noted.
Lawson, who has taken 50 wickets in his 12 Tests to date, also had his action reported to the ICC in 2003 after a Test series against Australia.
