I think I'm sharing

Dear Pastor,

I am an 18-year-old female living in Toronto, Canada. I have been involved with a guy in Kingston for almost two years now.

However, I am fully convinced that he is sleeping with other females down there. I can never seem to put my hands on this problem though.

He is young. In fact we are the same age, and this makes it worse, because I know how boys within my age group think and act when they are around females.

My friends say that if a girl has a man in Jamaica she is sharing him, and that he does not think that any Jamaican man will wait upon a girl living abroad as he has needs. It is true that he has needs, but so do I.

If I were to take the liberty and go along and do my own thing outside of the relationship, would that be wrong? What should I do?

Dear T.D.,

I could only encourage you to keep this young man as a friend. Don't put your heart, mind and soul on him, because both of you are young, and you don't know what direction this relationship may take.

It will do you no good to mope over him and to wonder whether or not he is sleeping with other girls. If you are in school, study hard. Concentrate on that.

Go out sometimes. Socialise with other members of the opposite sex. I am not telling you to become involved with them. It is healthy to have friends you can trust, so choose your friends wisely. I repeat, don't worry about what this guy may be doing in Jamaica.

You consider him your boyfriend now, but who knows whether you would grow out each other.
