Man pleads guilty to absconding bail

A MAN WHO skipped bail and went to the Bahamas for almost a year before being deported, was on Wednesday sentenced to 18 months hard labour after pleading guilty in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Robert Craig, 28, who is from Spanish Town, St. Catherine, was handed the sentence by Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle after pleading guilty to absconding bail.

At the time when he skipped bail, Craig was before the courts on charges of shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm which were committed last year.

He was reportedly granted bail but fled to the Bahamas where he was held in Nassau in August after the Jamaican Police informed their Nassau counterparts that Craig was wanted for serious crimes.

In handing down sentence, Resident Magistrate Gayle said Craig committed a serious act by skipping bail.
