ROHAN CUNNINGHAM, THE man who successfully impersonated a policeman and cleared several criminal records of some persons at the records office, was fined $40,000 or six months at hard labour when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Cunningham was handed the sentence after pleading guilty to the charge of impersonating a policeman last week.
CLEARED FOR A FEE
Allegations are that Cunningham frequented the Criminal Records Office on Duke Street where he cleared the criminal records of persons for a fee.
His scam was uncovered after he allegedly collected $3,000 from the complainant saying he would clear the records in a day but failed to deliver on his promise.
The court was told that for at least eight months Cunningham pretended to be a police officer and was seen on the building but never with an identification.
But, before being sentenced, Cunningham said he was not present at the office everyday of the week as he had to go to school.
He said as a result he went there only twice a week.
After hearing his explanation, Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle handed him his sentence.
