A RESIDENT WHO handed over a glock semi-automatic pistol to the Ewarton Police recently was in for high praises.
According to sub-officer in charge of the Ewarton Police Station, Inspector Neville Whitely, at about 7:00 a.m. he was at the station when a farmer took the weapon to him, saying that he found it while he was clearing a patch to tie his animal.
Inspector Whitely said upon close examination, he realised the serial number of the weapon had been erased. He told THE STAR that the weapon handed over was believed to be one which was used on July 7 when gunmen robbed a Windalco employee of his Toyota Corolla motor car which later crashed and which the men abandoned.
He said that it was in the same area where the crashed occurred, that the weapon was found by the farmer.
"We are really thankful that this law-abiding citizen was the one who found this weapon," the inspector said. He added that if the weapon had been found by persons of unsavoury character, then it could have been a different story.
The find brings to 52, the number of guns recovered by police from the St. Catherine North Division since the start of this year.
