Alleged thief pleads not guilty

By RASBERT TURNER, STAR Writer

spanish town

RICHARDO COATES FROM Delacree Road, Kingston, appeared in the Spanish Town RM Court recently to answer to a charge of larceny from a dwelling.

The court learnt that Coates, 24, who was the caretaker of a premises in St. Catherine, is accused of going into the house with a spare key and stealing appliances and furniture valued at over $300,000.

It is said that on August 7 when the owners came back they reported the items stolen. Coates was arrested. He pleaded not guilty in court.

His lawyer told the court that Coates is not guilty as a window to the house was left open by the complainants who went abroad. He said his client will not run away as he is gainfully employed and is asking the court to grant him bail.

He was granted $50,000 bail and is to return to court on September 9.
