Man remanded on murder charge

By STEPHANIE ELLIOT, STAR Writer

A MAN WAS remanded in custody last Thursday when he appeared in the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court before Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown to answer to a murder charge.

He is Devon Thomas of Grass Piece, Mocho, Clarendon. Jointly charged for the act is his sister Dian Thomas, who is yet to be located by the police. A warrant is out for her arrest.

Attorney-at-Law Pierre Rodgers, who is the accused's legal representative, was absent from the proceedings.

The allegations against Thomas are that on January 1, 2005 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Victor Vernon was stabbed to death during a dispute with the siblings. Vernon was the fianceé of Dian.

His body was found in a shallow grave on January 5, 2005. The court heard that Vernon's body was dragged several metres from his home where he was buried in the shallow grave.

The matter is set for mention on September 8, 2005.
