A 65-YEAR-OLD rastafarian accused of beating his child's mother after she said he stole $100 will stand trial today for assaulting the woman.
Herman Ball, a mason from August Town, St. Andrew, pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm before Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle of Friday.
Court files indicate that on August 16 the complainant, the mother of Ball's child, left the minor with him. She also gave the child a box of corn flakes and $100.
It is reported that she returned later in the day and asked the child for the money but the minor did not have it. The court heard that when she asked the accused for the money an argument developed. During the dispute Ball allegedly used a piece of stick to hit the complainant. The matter was reported to the police and Ball was arrested.
When the matter came up in court, Ball denied hitting the complainant. But the woman told the court that she had to pull out two strands of Ball's locks to prevent him from causing further injury to her.
After hearing the allegations, Ball's case was set for this evening in the night court.
