Mechanic faces court

A MECHANIC FROM Riversdale may be out of work for some time after he was accused of literally destroying one of his jobs.

Dave Hacker, a 31-year-old mechanic of Riversdale, was charged yesterday with manslaughter, no insurance coverage and driving away a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.

Reports are that at about 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Hacker was driving a 1992 Honda Integra he was supposed to be working on. Travelling along the Knollis main road to Riversdale, he swerved to avoid a pothole and reports are that two persons, Marlon Welch and Delroy Walford, were hit. Walford had been pushing a handcart along the roadway while Welch was a bystander.

Both men were taken to the Linstead Hospital where Welch died while undergoing treatment. Walford was transferred to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was treated and released.

Hacker is now in police custody where he awaits his August 24 court date.
