Fraud warrant out for taxi operators' consultant

By RASBERT TURNER, STAR Writer

SPANISH TOWN

THE PORTMORE POLICE in St. Catherine have issued a warrant for the arrest of Egeton Newman, consultant to the National Association of Taxi Operators (NATO).

According to Detective Corporal, Marlene Thompson, the warrant is for the charge of obtaining money by means of false pretence.

Corporal Thompson told THE STAR that on March 21 of this year, the complainant is reported to have paid money totalling $36,000 to Mr. Newman who told him that he could get a route for his taxi. It is alleged that the complainant was told by Newton he would get a receipt within seven days from the Transport Authority for the route licence.

Matter reported

The complainant was said to have reported the matter after he was unable to get the receipt or the return of his money.

The Detective Corporal said so far they have been unable to locate Newman. Efforts by THE STAR to contact Mr. Newman were also unsuccessful.
