We need to protect the children
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I would like to address a letter that was in THE STAR on August 10, 2005. Yes, we all do believe that our children are the future. They are the rising stars of tomorrow and we all would like the best for them right? So, why is it that we find it so hard to stop all the craziness that's going on nowadays? How can you look at a little three-year-old girl, still a baby, has not yet committed a sin in her life, and rape her of her years to come? How can we as human beings with feelings who were born out of a woman look at a innocent little child and kill them in front of their parent? How is it that you can look at a child and rob them of their innocence? They have not yet enjoyed their youth. Now we look at how the world is going today and wonder why people are taking lives like it's just a game. Because they were victims of neglect, they were abused, they were left to figure it out all by themselves and when they realised they could not do it all alone, they found the easy way out. The females turned to cheap labour (prostitution, crack/cocaine and you name the rest); the males rape, rob and kill innocent people because they want the big and easy, rich and famous life. But I ask, why does little Jamaica "out of many, one people" allow mankind to be taking and abusing innocent lives, people killing each other, brothers killing brothers over simple stuff as to who should wash the dishes? What has this world gone to? Everywhere you go you find crime and violence but Jamaica can do better than this. We have our heritage, our ancestors did not fight this hard to gain independence for our country for this to be happening. Are our children really the future or is it crime and violence?
I am, etc., Ava Morris
